eligibility

WHO

Open to all undergraduate & graduate students currently enrolled at universities in Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Students who have recently graduated can also join teams, though at least 1 member of the team must be a registered student at a university.

TEAM

Teams should consist of a maximum of 3 students.

We also encourage the formation of teams consisting of students from different academic majors, different universities and different countries.

IDEA

Business and Social Venture ideas relating to all sectors are eligible for consideration:

  • Technology
  • ICT
  • Medical
  • Agriculture
  • Tourism
  • Service sector, etc.

PRIORITY

Priority will be given to teams that are committed to launching a business or social venture.

Because The Mekong Challenge program is designed to help launch new businesses and social ventures via a 3 month online training and mentoring process.

FORM

All team members should appear in the 3 minutes video which can be uploaded to YouTube and completed application forms should be submitted per e-mailed to:

NOTE

For teams who are applying from Cambodia and Myanmar, it is recommended that they first apply to:
- Business Model Competition - Cambodia
- Business Model Competition - Myanmar

The winners of these two national competitions will receive automatic entry into the Mekong Business Challenge.

process

  • IDEA SELECTION

    A committee consisting of several consultants from McKinsey & Company will review all of the submitted applications and select the top ten business ideas for admission into the final stage of the competition

  • MENTORING

    Once admitted into the Challenge, all teams will be assigned a mentor who will provide advice to the team with regards to the preparation and testing of their business model

  • MAIN COMPETITION

    The final one-day challenge will involve each of the 10 teams presenting their business models in front of a panel of international judges. The length of each presentation will be 10 minutes, plus an additional 10 minutes for questions by the judging panel

  • IMPACT & SUPPORT

    Medals and prizes, including follow-on support, will be awarded to the top 3 teams. Winning team delegated to the International Business Model Competition(iBMC) in the U.S. to compete for top prize of $25K
